PROJECT / ESP32 APPLICATION
Wireless Display Thermal Camera
Thermal camera for the Waveshare ESP32-S3-Touch-AMOLED-1.8 and MLX90640, with a wireless second screen
About this project
A Waveshare ESP32-S3-Touch-AMOLED-1.8 with a Waveshare MLX90640 module becomes a handheld thermal imager. The 32×24 sensor frame is upscaled to fill 448×336 in landscape, with the crosshair temperature at the centre, red and blue rings on the hottest and coldest spot, and a colour bar that rescales itself to the scene; it updates 16 times a second. BOOT cycles the palette and toggles °C/°F, while PWR writes a BMP of the screen plus a CSV of raw temperatures to a FAT32 microSD card. A second board of the same model, flashed with the same firmware but no sensor, turns into a wireless screen over ESP-NOW with no router or pairing. It is an Arduino sketch needing the GFX library and OPI PSRAM. It is a hobby imager, expressly not a medical, fire-alarm or safety device, and the wireless link is unencrypted broadcast.
