About this project

About this project

A desk robot with two animated eyes on a 1.8-inch AMOLED, answering in Italian when called by name. The wake word is detected locally by esp-sr, so no audio leaves the device until it is spoken; questions then go to Groq Whisper for transcription, a Groq-hosted Qwen 3.8 with a GPT-OSS fallback, and an Azure neural voice returning PCM with subtitles drawn on screen. Free tiers of both services cover home use, but a Groq key and an Azure Speech resource are required. Seven FreeRTOS tasks split the two cores — microphone and wake word on one, network, playback and UI on the other. The build is an Arduino sketch; the case prints in white and black PLA and closes with seven screws. The firmware is marked untested on real hardware, and a single microphone means it cannot hear you while speaking.
