About this project

About this project

The device half of a news system: an M5PaperS3 fetches seven PNG pages over HTTP from a Raspberry Pi that renders them, caches them on SD, and only redraws when index.version changes. Before touching an image it fetches the small version file, compares, and skips everything if nothing changed — which cuts network time, battery and e-paper refreshes at once. Cached pages are shown while the user swipes, and the device prefetches page1 and the last detail page only on normal battery. Refresh cadence follows power: frequent on USB, medium on a healthy battery, longer when low, stopped when critical, and no background work for 20 seconds after a touch. The footer reports LAST update time, page count and battery, and the header flips between NEW and READ. It stays awake instead of using deep sleep, and the server at a fixed HTTP address is a code constant.
