About this project
About this project
Eight by eight WS2812 LEDs behind a stencil plate spell the time in English words, with optional dots for the extra one to four minutes. The default target is M5's small ESP32-S3 board, and the same firmware also runs on generic ESP32 and ESP8266 boards; on a D1 mini the data line is recommended on D2, because D4 is a boot-strap pin, the debug UART and the onboard LED all at once. Time comes from NTP, held across reboots and Wi-Fi drops, with an optional DS3231 on D1/D6. Colours, night dimming, blackout, matrix alignment, MQTT and OTA are set from a dashboard served by the device or a serial console at 115200 baud. Only binaries are published, the C++ source is not published, and the case STL files are not included. A full-white matrix wants its own 5 V supply.
