ROUND AMOLED WATCH / ESP32 APPLICATION
Lumo Watch
A round AMOLED watch with code-drawn faces and a second life as a USB media knob.

About this project
About this project
A round 1.75-inch AMOLED board, the Waveshare ESP32-S3-Touch-AMOLED-1.75, gets turned into a watch whose real subject is a 16.7 ms deadline: a full 466×466 frame is 434 KB and about 11 ms of QSPI bus time at 80 MHz, so redrawing everything at 60 fps was never an option. The fix set is dirty 8-row bands, frames started on the panel's tearing pulse, and driving the SPI peripheral directly with two band buffers so DMA ships one while the CPU draws the next, taking display writes from 3.4 ms to 0.5 ms. It holds 59-60 fps using 9-13 ms per frame, and runs on Zephyr RTOS rather than the vendor SDK, which meant writing the board definition and four drivers first. Plugged into a laptop it also works as a USB media remote, with a Mac helper reporting volume, mute and now-playing over serial.
