CARDPUTER APPS ON ANDROID / ESP32 APPLICATION

Droidputer

Run open-source Cardputer apps on Android: plug an ESP32-S3 over USB-OTG and the phone is the screen, keyboard, GPS and flasher. Apps are rebuilt on demand from GitHub against a display/keyboard shim.

About this project

About this project

An Android phone with an ESP32-S3 on an OTG cable takes the place of a Cardputer: the board runs the program, the phone supplies screen, a 4x14 keyboard, GPS and the flasher. Open-source Cardputer apps are recompiled unchanged against a patched M5GFX/M5Cardputer shim, which tees every pixel over the S3's native USB-Serial/JTAG and merges the phone's key and NMEA frames back into the app; apps drawing with TFT_eSPI get a second shim. The phone triggers the build, GitHub Actions runs it behind a small proxy, and the phone flashes the four parts itself. 15 apps are verified on a bare ESP32-S3 devkit; 44 of 79 app/target pairs build, 30 are refused by design, 5 wait for arduino-esp32 3.x. It needs Android 8+ with USB-OTG and the board's native USB port - a CH343 or CH9102 bridge never carries the link.
