ADS-B FLIGHT BOARD / ESP32 APPLICATION
Flight Watch OSS
IoT Flight tracking display using ADS-B on RGB LED matrix

About this project
About this project
Nearby aircraft, drawn on a single 64x64 HUB75 RGB panel driven by an ESP32 Trinity. Positions come from OpenSky's ADS-B state vectors over OAuth, and route, airline and aircraft details are enriched through FlightAware's AeroAPI, with airline and aircraft lookup tables compiled into the firmware instead of fetched from a CDN. The whole design is about RAM: the display is single-buffered (tearing is possible), JSON is parsed as a stream, TLS clients are static, and AeroAPI calls are capped at two per pass with a 60-second enrichment cache. Fetching defaults to every 30 seconds, with a 2-minute TLS backoff after an OpenSky failure. The config portal at flightwatch.local lives for 10 seconds after boot and then shuts down. Setup means editing the WiFi, location, hardware and API key headers, then flashing from PlatformIO.
