About this project

About this project

A voice assistant firmware that expects a server: the wake word runs on the device with ESP-SR, then audio is streamed as OPUS over WebSocket or MQTT plus UDP for cloud ASR, an LLM turn and TTS, with speaker recognition and device-side MCP for controlling a speaker, LED, servo or GPIO. It connects to xiaozhi.me by default, where a personal account gets the Qwen real-time model for free, and self-hosted Python, Java or Go servers exist as alternatives. The hardware list spans 70+ open boards plus a breadboard build, on ESP32-C3, ESP32-S3 and ESP32-P4. It also carries a 4.2-inch e-paper desk-card board documented separately, and v2 cannot be reached by OTA from v1.
